Are you interested in learning about the ways you can help with Vacation Bible School in 2010? There are a wide of variety of areas in which you can volunteer and use your specific skills and talents! Click here to view an informational flyer (a 2-page PDF file) describing the VBS schedule and volunteer positions.

To further assist you in selecting an area of VBS in which to volunteer, a list of Frequently Asked Questions and their answers appear below.

Frequently Asked Questions

You may click on an individual question of interest, or scroll down to see answers to all of the following questions:

1.  What all is involved in being a classroom helper?

2.  What crafts are involved?

3.  What is involved in recreation?

4.  Snacks - What do you need?

5.  What is required in doing Records?

6.  What do you do in Publicity?

7.  What do you do in the Kick Off Event?

8.  What is involved in Missions?

1.  What all is involved in being a classroom helper?
Classroom helpers have two primary functions: getting the children from one activity to the next (ie. walking them from the crafts room to the snack room) and helping the teacher with crowd control while in the classroom so that the teacher can focus on Bible teaching while having to make the least amount of pauses to correct behavior as possible. There is no prep work involved.

2.  What crafts are involved?
There is a Crafts director, and Crafts helpers. The Crafts Director chooses the crafts for the children to make and compiles a list of needed materials/quantities. That person has a fair amount of preparation work ahead of VBS, then will need to be present during VBS to teach the helpers how to make the crafts work with helpers to assist children. Craft helpers have little or no preparation ahead of VBS.

3.  What is involved in recreation?
Recreation is organized indoor/outdoor games the children play. The Recreation Director plans the activities and gathers the needed materials. The helpers learn the games and help the leaders with executing the games with the children. That's a wild part of VBS!

4.  Snacks - What do you need?
The person in charge of the snacks picks the foods to be served. The Snacks helpers assist in preparing, serving and cleaning up. Ideally, the snacks are prepared and waiting at the children's seat at the table to expedite the process and cut down on mess. Since the specific snacks have not been assigned, I don't know what foods are needed but we will be putting out lists closer to VBS for donations.

5.  What is required in doing Records?
The person in charge of Records is responsible for gathering the administrative information from the families of children attending VBS (registration forms, primarily) and during VBS, getting attendance records from the classrooms to help in reaching out to families after VBS.

6.  What do you do in Publicity?
Publicity is done before VBS to spread the word in Raymore and surrounding communities. Since VBS is an outreach tool, we are needing people to go into the community, obtain permission from local businesses to post flyers, then display them for patrons to see.

7.  What do you do in the Kick Off Event?
The Kick-Off Event will be held Sunday 7/11. There will be many opportunities to help plan the event and we need church members to just be present to during the event to help with games, serving snacks, etc.

8.  What is involved in Missions?
Missions will be taught during VBS, most likely while the children are eating their snacks. We are hoping to enlist the help of people who have been on mission trips or projects, but there is also curriculum included in our VBS package to help with teaching about missions. This will require some preparation ahead of time.
