A Gap meeting was held on Monday Aug 10.  Here’s what is up for those who missed it.

“Popping In” to visit Ministry

We are making visits and delivering decorated bags of popcorn to people who have visited our church or who have been out of attendance for awhile. People at the meeting took bags of popcorn and information so they could visit some of the people on our list.  If you are interested in making some visits please contact Rachel Westendorf and she will be glad to supply you with everything you need.

Adopted Family

The school supplies were delivered to our adopted family on Monday.  Thanks to everyone who helped.  The family was very grateful.

Mission trips

We discussed planning a mission trip. One suggestion was a trip to Won by One Ministries in Jamaica which is an organization that builds homes and greenhouse for the people in Jamaica. The people are able to grow fruits and veggie in the greenhouses and sell the produce directly to the resorts on the island. The cost was high for a mission trip like this. We discussed fundraising and planning possibilities. If we looked at doing a trip like this we would schedule it for a date two years out so we would have time to raise the needed funding. We will be checking with our Baptist Association and the State for opportunities they may have available for us to do mission work in state and with the International Mission Board for info on funding and mission opportunities abroad.

We are interested in doing small mission projects throughout the coming year.  We decided to focus some of our attention back to the Missouri Baptist Children’s home in Peculiar. We were unable to schedule a benefit concert in conjunction with the Apple festival as we had original planned. We are still interested in doing something like this for the boys home and will be reconnecting with their staff to plan.  We will also be looking for other opportunities to serve the boys and the staff of the home throughout the year. If you have any suggestions please email us and let us know what you think would be a good way to minister to this important group of people.

Breakfast

The breakfast seems to be enjoyed by most people in the church. We are currently not collecting enough to cover our cost. The difference is currently being covered by a member of GAP. If we can all be aware and bring a few bucks to drop in every week this could easily be eliminated. Also we don’t have a list of volunteers rotating through the kitchen to help Sunday mornings. If you have time and can come to help please feel free to come. We won’t be calling and asking for your help. (If that is what you are waiting for) So please come help whenever you are free to do so.  Some in our congregation have commented that they don’t feel like they get to sit and visit as much because they are crowded around the few table we have set up in the fellowship hall. We will be discussing this and working towards a solution. Our goal was to give people an avenue by which they could connect with other people in the church.

The younger GA group has volunteered to do a muffin breakfast one week this year. And Clayton Hockett’s SS class is still doing breakfast every 5th Sunday. We are excited to have these other groups involved.

“Opening  Day”  Game Event

Sunday, September 13- following morning worship we will be hosting an event you won’t want to miss. Join us as we (ok---so mainly the men)  watch the Chiefs vs. Ravens, play our own game of Madden Football, (as everyone else ---that would be me…)pick from a seemingly endless supply of board games in which to challenge each other. Best of all we will be simply spending time together. You’re your calendars! Invite your friends!

Parade

We will be planning a float to enter into the parade for Raymore festival in the park. The theme this year is October Fun Fest.   Be thinking of ideas.  The Parade is on Oct 3.

Next meeting- Thursday Sept. 17th 6:30pm – hope to see you then!
