The Process of Repentance: God I’m Sorry
2 Corinthians 7:9-10
[9] Now I am rejoicing, not because you were
grieved, but because your grief led to
repentance. For you were grieved as God willed,
so that you didn’t experience any loss from us.
[10] For godly grief produces a repentance not to
be regretted and leading to salvation, but
worldly grief produces death.
I. What is WORLDLY Sorrow?
1. The first difference is what CAUSES sorrow.
2. The second difference involves RESULTS.
Hebrews 12:16
And see that there isn’t any immoral or irreverent
person like Esau, who sold his birthright in exchange for one meal.
II. What is GODLY Sorrow?
Overwhelming sorrow means…
1. I see my sin from GOD’S PERSPECTIVE.
2 Corinthians 7:1
[1] Therefore dear friends, since we have such
promises, we should wash ourselves clean from
every impurity of the flesh and spirit, making
our sanctification complete in the fear of God
2. Godly repentance CHANGES me.
2 Timothy 2:25
[25] instructing his opponents with gentleness.
Perhaps God will grant them repentance to
know the truth.
3. Godly repentance is for my PROTECTION!
Romans 6:22
But now, since you have been liberated from sin and become enslaved to God, you have your fruit, which results in sanctification and the end is eternal life!
